A Great Leader and a Great Party Produce a Great People!

Review of leader Kim Jong Il’s “Respecting the Forerunners of the Revolution is a Noble Moral Obligation for Revolutionaries”- Juche 85(1996)

In his monumental work “Respecting the Forerunners of the Revolution is a Noble Moral Obligation for Revolutionaries”, the dear leader comrade Kim Jong Il dealt with a wide range of topics that carry decisive meaning in our present epoch.

In his article, the dear leader demonstrated that in order to destroy a nation and its revolutionary socialist construction, the imperialists invariably attack the leadership and revolutionary traditions. In the cases of the former Yugoslavia and Soviet Union, they often go even further. The nation itself is destroyed.

 Leader Kim Jong Il says:

“The history of the world socialist movement provides the serious lesson that a revolution advances victoriously when revolutionary forefathers are respected and their accomplishments are preserved and developed, and that a revolution is abandoned and frustrated when the revolutionary predecessors are betrayed and their accomplishments are negated.”

He further elaborates the significance of revolutionary traditions and forerunners saying:

”establishing a correct viewpoint and attitude towards revolutionary seniors is most important for the development of the socialist movement……Their attitude towards their revolutionary forefathers means their attitude towards the revolution. It is an important matter relating to the destiny of the revolution.”

Thus, it is the case that when the imperialists want to destroy a nation, they target the leadership, denigrate its image, and destroy its credibility. Modern examples abound from the show trials and ultimate martyrdom of Saddam Hussein and Slobodan Milosevic which followed US wars of aggression, to the various neo-colonialist conspiracies against Robert Mugabe and the ZANU-PF regime, the countless assaults against President Fidel Castro Ruz and socialist Cuba over the last few decades, to the attempt at stifling Bolivarianism via hatching conspiracies and disinformation campaigns against President Hugo Chavez.

It is in this fashion, that the imperialist enemies and their culprits, the revisionists, were able to destroy the great Soviet Union.

History teaches us that when Khrushchev wanted to destroy socialism in the Soviet Union, he had to first start by defaming the life and legacy of Comrade Generalissimo Joseph Stalin. It was none other than the towering Stalin who heroically fought for implementing the banner of Marxism-Leninism

and Soviet motherland defense against the fascist invaders. Under the slogan of combating the “cult-of-personality” Khrushchev helped to undermine the party and people of the Soviet Union via slandering their leadership and revolutionary traditions.

Strongly aided by International Zionism, both Gorbachev and Yeltsin would go even further than Khrushchev. Gorbachev’s “perestroika” openly began undermining Leninism itself, and Yeltsin attacked both Marx and Lenin.

As the dear leader says:

“The highest representative of revolutionary elders is the leader, and loyalty to the leader is the highest expression of the sense of revolutionary obligation.”

So it is incumbent upon all genuine socialist and anti-imperialist revolutionaries to uphold the leader as the most important of revolutionary elders. One must understand clearly that expressing loyalty is the highest expression of revolutionary obligation.

Why is the leader so important for the revolution and why is he the first subject of the internal (revisionists) and external (imperialists) attacks on a nation?

Leader Kim Jong Il explains:

”The leader of the working class is the guiding intellect and leader of the revolution. The popular masses make history, but they can hold the position of true masters of their destiny as independent makers of history and fulfill their role as such only when they receive the guidance of a pre-eminent leader.”

So here in this quote leader Kim Jong Il defines the role of the leader and his significance. Attacking the leader is like attacking socialism in its whole. This inevitably is the first step to liquidating the nation.

As to the duties of the leader according to Juche idea:

” The leader puts forward scientific revolutionary ideas, strategy and tactics, inspires the masses with revolutionary consciousness and organizes them, guides the revolutionary struggle to victory, provides people with noble socio-political integrity and teaches them to lead honorable lives on the road of revolution.”

The qualification of the leader is that foremost he must love the people and be a servant to the people devoting himself to them.

” love for the people and respect for the revolutionary predecessors are inseparable”.

The superior fruitation of Juche-based socialism is explained by the fact that Korea has been able to produce single-hearted unity between the people, party, and leader. This stems from the human-centered outlook of Juche idea and its emphasis on consciousness and ideology from the standpoint of humanity as masters of the universe. At the center of this stands the revolutionary leader acting as the brain of the human body.

“In our society the leader and his fighters, the Party and the people, are united in one mind, and our people love and help each other like kinsmen, forming a large, harmonious family. This shows the brilliant victory of the Juche idea in the spiritual and moral spheres and demonstrates the superiority of our style of socialism.”

From the anti-Japanese guerillas to the fighters of the Father Liberation War that defeated the US, to the Chollima movement that built socialism in the DPRK, to the living contributors of workers, farmers, intellectuals, and army soldiers who pioneered genius ways of solving complex problems in the construction of socialism in the DPRK and continue to do so today, to the forefathers in the  ancient history of the Korean nation, to the martyrs and their children, to the unconverted prisoners of war; all those deserve reverence and respect are  treated with profound honor as pioneers of the success of the socialist revolution in the DPRK.

The predecessors and the leadership of the DPRK, as in the example of the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung, are held in such high reverence and treated with the utmost respect after their demise, as with in their lifetime. This is particularly true in the case of the great leader. He has been immortalized for dexterity at his beautiful tomb at Kumsusan Memorial Palace.

This spirit of love and true camaraderie that one witnesses in the DPRK comes from the diligent work of ideological preparedness. It enriches the citizens of the DPRK with a superior form of communist morality.

From infancy Koreans are taught that the best way to respect revolutionary forerunners is to honor them and to treat their name as if they were alive amongst us. Korea has immortalized the path of the great leader and the revolutionary traditions of the anti-Japanese guerrillas via systematizing the Songun idea and following the path of placing priority in the military via the brilliant Songun leadership method of leader Kim Jong Il.

In his paper, leader Kim Jong Il shows the correct method of building is a superior form of communist morality, and he highlights that this must begin with the youth.

The readiness of DPRK citizens to overcome the huge challenges that faced their nation in building socialism were overcome by the strength of their superior ideological preparedness. It is this ideological preparedness that makes one Korean People’s Army (KPA) soldier a match for a 100 foe.

This ideological preparedness is the key to the success of socialism in the DPRK, and it is what distinguishes Juche-based socialism in the DPRK.

The ideological preparedness comes from a superior conscience sense of communist morality. Communist morality is the most profound and superior of all forms of morality.

This sense of morality is based on the ideal of self-denial. It is rooted in the forsaking of the self-interest, in favor of the collective interest of all people of the nation.

Collectivism and single-hearted unity is why communist morality is the most superior form of morality. Contrasting that with capitalist morality, it is clear how inferior capitalist morality is, which is based on individualism.

Capitalist exploitive society, as the dear leader states, leads to the law of the jungle. Its product is corrupt morality. Capitalist society creates slaves to money who will sacrifice anything in their hungry pursuit of the false-god mammon.

In communist morality, the most superior form is observed when individualism is crushed in favor of the superior collective goal.

Now that we have established the superiority of communist morality, let us ask ourselves were and how ideological preparedness begins?

It must begin with the youth. Leader Kim Jong Il points to the importance of the senior cadres of the revolution to serve as role models for the junior cadres. According to his article, ideological preparedness comes from communist morality which is taught by socialism.

Ideological preparedness must come from revolutionary practice. Such revolutionary practice cannot be accomplished unless one is part of a collective.

A collective is best realized when one is part of an organization. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for individuals to be part of an organization in order that they develop ideological preparedness. This  leads to communist morality, and which in turn comes from revolutionary practice through organizational membership. This membership in an organization, stresses the dear leader, must be on a voluntary basis in order to work!

In the DPRK for instance, we can talk about the formation of the League of Socialist Working Youth. Making a keen observation missed by many previous theorists, leader Kim Jong Il points to the important role schools and families play in accomplishing the ideological training of the youths. Furthermore, he stresses role of the arts, literature, and the press. This is all complimented by wide scale social campaigns throughout the whole of society.

Leader Kim Jong Il emphasizes that it is the youth who are the successors of the revolution, and that their participation is essential for the future of the revolution.

Thus, in Juche based society, moral communist superiority is harnessed and accomplished.

Hence, the formula becomes crystal clear:

Perfect morality comes from socialism, perfect people come from perfect morality, and perfect society comes from perfect morality.

In this fashion the following path is illustrated:

Socialism-àPerfect moralityàPerfect peopleàPerfect society

It is through this conclusion that leader Kim Jong Il came to his profound statement:

”A great leader and a great party produce a great people!”

In this fashion, society can accomplish perfection in a collective manner, as it achieves perfect morality with communist morality, as the most superior form of morality society can reach.

It is only by respecting the leader and the forerunners of the revolution, alongside the revolutionary traditions that they set, by which society can practice it’s most perfect form of morality. Society must view the paternal leader and the maternal Party with the highest sense of moral obligation, thus achieving perfection.

Korea is a society filled with love for one another, the leader and the party. This creates loyalty, unity, and camaraderie.

Contrast this to capitalist society, particularly in the United States, where the exact opposite exists.

In the US, relationships amongst people follow the alpha male hierarchy. Distrust and hatred of the people are encouraged. The “survival of the fittest” pits the strong against the weak, and the strong is used to crush the weak in order to weed them out. This ultimately results in a vice-laden and morally corrupt society.
