From the Front-Lines in Lebanon
August 14 2006
Sheikh Hasan Nasrallah speaks in a televised speech:
We want to first address the destruction of homes in Lebanon. We want to announce that starting tomorrow we will dispense money to the people who became homeless as a result fo this war to lease a home for one whole year as we know the rebuilding of the homes will take some time.
We ask of civil engineers to come and help us, for laborers to come and help us by volunteering and for those who own homes not to raise the price of the homes for sale because of an increase in demand for these homesn out of humanitarian considerations.
Some 15,000 homes in Lebanon have been destroyed. So I ask of all Lebanese to come down to the streets and volunteer for the cleanup and rebuilding of our country.
Now with regards to the disarming of the resistance that we have heard of the past few days, I want to point out to the Lebanese brothers who raised this private issue on public media outlets that this is bad timing on our part.
Where the enemy now is in disarray and there is massive dissent and antagonisms amongst its ranks.
At the same time we have so many that are homeless right now we must take that into consideration and understand that those raising these issues of disarming the resistance form their air-conditioned comfortable offices at this emotional time for our people who need our support is wrong and unacceptable.
So i ask all those who listen to this talk and support our resistance to transcend this talk because of our care for the national unity in this country and remember that although these people are homeless and have lost many of their relatives and children who were killed or injured, understand that these people had now emerged victorious from this war.
Even the enemy is not even asking for disarming the resistance anymore. Some in Lebanon are asking concessions that even the US and the Zionist enemy have not demanded.
As you know one of the objectives of this aggression was to disarm the resistance. I want you all to pay attention to what the Zionist minister had said when she said: The most powerful army in the world will not be able to disarm Hizbullah.
Those who are asking the resistance to surrender are they coming alongside their proposals with the return of the Shebaa farms? Are they bringing back the prisoners who are in enemy jails? Are they ready to defend Lebanon when "israel" attacks Lebanon? Who shall defend Lebanon if the arms of the resistance are given up?
Who then shall give guarantees to Lebanon that it shall not be attacked by "israel".
Who shall teach the enemy that any attack on Lebanon is a costly attack? A costly attack in terms of lives, materials, and that it will be financially expensive.
Those who speak of the role of the state we want to say to those that we are part of the state. But which state?
We want a strong state in Lebanon. We want a state that is capable of defending itself. I say strengthening the state means strengthening its resistance.
It is not the Lebanese army, nor the UN who are capable of safe-guarding Lebanon.
I want to finish by congratulating those returning to their homes and want to tell them that it is through people like you that dignity, glory, and victory become possible.
Death to "israel" !
