On the Significance of Building Solidarity with Korea
On the occasion of honoring the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung on the 15th anniversary of his passing
July 8th, Juche 98(2009)
John Paul Cupp, Chairman of the Songun Politics Study Group (USA) and the US Solidarity Committee to Support the AINDF and the South Korean People’s Struggle and Public Relations Director of the North American Committee Against Zionism and Imperialism (NACAZAI)
June 25th through July 27th marks “The Month of Solidarity with the Korean People.” These dates represent the beginning and the ending dates of US aggression during the Great Fatherland liberation war from 1950-1953. During these days people from all over the world have shown solidarity with the Korean Revolution for a number of decades now.
What makes solidarity with Korea so special? Certainly, anyone resisting imperialism is worthy of support, and all countries facing or enduring aggression should be defended. Besides Korea, Iraq, Palestine, Iran, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Cuba, Sudan, Venezuela and many other people should be supported. What makes solidarity with Korea so significant is that the Korean Revolution constitutes the most advanced model of socialist construction and anti-imperialism in the world today.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) survived when socialism collapsed in many countries and “opening up” occurred in others by dint of its outstanding leadership and the single-hearted unity of the masses. This is all testament to the superiority and great relevance of Juche and Songun as foremost advances in Communist and anti-imperialist theory and practice.
Many countries caved in for fear of aggression and surrendered their national struggle and class struggle. Others were invaded for having lacked the military deterrent power of the DPRK. Hence, it is understandable why so many people came to understand the significance of the DPRK.
Leader Kim Jong Il’s Korea, as my own eyes have witnessed, is a land where “placing the gun before the hammer, sickle and brush” has won victory after victory against the United States and given moral and material encouragement to the south Korean people’s anti-US and anti-war struggle for. Even people who previously misunderstood or opposed socialist construction came to deeply cherish Korea for having never conceded principles of national self-determination. This was all possible because the Juche idea is a new revolutionary idea which places primacy on the role of mankind as master of the universe while cherishing independence at all costs. Hence the masses became empowered to the level of combatants and masters of society via ideological and military preparedness under the loving care of the Worker’s Party of Korea.
Through self-reliance and the new found Juche idea, the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung made Korea a socialist beacon of freedom on its way towards great achievements.
Having defeated two imperialisms in one lifetime, the Korean people absolutely hate imperialism and know with certainly that it can be smashed. They harbor no illusion about the role of the gun in the anti-imperialist class struggle. The great leader coined the phrase “match for a hundred foes” to bring about the goal of self-reliance in national defense with the idea that each soldier aims to be able to defeat a hundred enemies. This and the example of the anti-Japanese guerrillas, who developed the army before the party, rather than following Leninist patterns dogmatically, is the root of Songun Politics.
Knowing full well the pain of national and social subjugation, the Korean Revolution has always stood against flunkeyism and paternalism. Korea remains consistent and steadfast in its defense of national liberation struggles and progressive regimes around the world even while imperialism becomes more militaristic and certain big power chauvinists take on opportunistic and pragmatic positions to avoid rattling the US.
True patriotism and internationalism are dialectically connected. When writing On Having a Correct Understanding of Nationalism the dear leader Comrade Kim Jong Il made this very point. “A man who is unconcerned about the destiny of his country and nation cannot be faithful to internationalism.”
When we give solidarity to our friends and brothers around the world we actively strike blows against a common enemy, and in so doing strengthen the struggles of our own peoples inside the United States. All the ethnic groups in the United States should actively support the DPRK, world’s foremost power of socialism and anti-imperialism, because it strengthens our own struggle against the US imperialists who are oppressing us all and have destroyed our economy and society. Hence, we should defend Korea’s mighty resistance with feelings of deep pride, joy and solidarity.
Let us join hands with Korea and celebrate our month of solidarity again this year!
