The Real Issue Regarding Myanmar: Ending the Sanctions, Embargoes, Forced Isolation, and Imperialist Interference

--- John Paul Cupp, Public Relations Director of the North American Committee Against Zionism and Imperialism (NACAZAI)

With all the “Free Burma” love-fests going on by “leftists”, trade-union aristocracies, supposed “anti-imperialists”, and anti-war people, one wonders how everyone missed the real issue: demanding an end to sanctions, embargos, attempts at forced international alienation, and imperialist interference against the nation of Myanmar. Furthermore,  recognizing the  rights of nation’s to self-determination and national independence means recognizing Myanmar has the right to be  ruled  by any political system of its choosing, including one under the leadership of  General Than Shwe; regardless of how much  anyone outside of Myanmar doesn’t  like it.

Actually, I’m not surprised the western left and the degenerate “communist” types are taking such stances , This same useless alliance of counter-revolutionaries are simply following their typical form of objectively  supporting imperialism and neo-colonialism,  the local comprador  agents domestically, and in  this case, a cabal of globalists led by notorious Zionist billionaire and nations-wrecker George Soros.

When we are to affirm solidarity with Myanmar, as with all countries facing the globalist onslaught, our pillar is found in defending the principle of national independence.  Any social contradictions within Myanmar are a secondary matter to the primary contradiction with imperialism.  Furthermore, the over-promotion such social contradictions, whether real or imagined, (and in this case the latter is far truer than what many Western “leftists” would lead us to believe), must be condemned when objectively promoting imperialism or when such  forces lack a patriotic resolve to defend the national independence of Myanmar.

For the record I am affirming here solidarity with Myanmar, and not using the word “Burma”. First, the Burmese people and their sovereign state have a right to define themselves. Hence, even if one actually had a moral, ideological, social, or linguistic opposition to such name that is credible, and they don’t, the people of Myanmar and their leadership are those who determine such things alone. Secondly, the name Myanmar has linguistical connotations which are beyond the scope of this article, except to say that it was a rather scholarly attempt by the regime to improve the translation of the Burmese language’s own name for their homeland to the western world. In fact, the name Myanmar’s compatriots call themselves in their own mother tongue has NOT been altered by the regime in any way. So then for westerners to refer to Myanmar as “Burma” constitutes following an imperialist and neo-colonialist narrative without any redeeming value.

It is impossible to expect the average member of the popular classes in any given country to fully understand the conditions and realities of any other country, let alone all of them.  That said, it has to be readily understood that the primary contradiction is with imperialism, and the national independence of peoples is the greatest collective inalienable right.

Think what you will of the regime in Myanmar, and even pretend like General Than Shwe doesn’t have any popular support, if you must. However, none of this changes anything. We have an obligation and collective duty to fight to end the sanctions and embargoes against Myanmar, to fight the conspiracy of Zionist bankers and imperialism to destroy Myanmar, to refuse cooperation  with the national traitors of Myanmar (or anywhere), and to affirm that Myanmar is a friendly nation who is attacking no one and deserves equal status amongst peoples.

Even if Myanmar’s regime needs to come down, and I am NOT saying that it does, such is an internal matter of its people. Such does not  theortically justify either imperialist interference or any of her countrymen colluding with the enemies of Myanmar.

If all of this is too difficult for you, then you simple aren’t an anti-imperialist.

Personally, I have no problem or quarrel whatsoever with anyone actively working with Myanmar’s leadership and reconciliation process. Anytime Myanmar wants to build a world consensus against embargoes and sanctions, consider NACAZAI’s doors open wide.
